Hey everyone,
My name is Tharinda and I am a fourth year engineering student. As an engineer (to be), I generally have about 20+ contact hours (yey...) at uni and I tend to live in the computer labs. I generally take every opportunity to get out of the labs especially if there is free food.

I usually join societies (or like their pages) at the
beginning of O-week or Macfest to get updates about free BBQs and events via
email and facebook. It’s also good if you have friends who are freeloaders, they
can tell you about events which you haven’t come across and you can be free
loaders together.
One of the best societies to join if you would like free food is the wang club (https://www.facebook.com/wangclub ). They hold a BBQ once every two weeks and membership is only $10. So technically it’s not free. If you don’t have $10, find someone who has a membership sticker and ask them to get you food instead.

And if you are really bothered, you can look through the MQ website for events (http://www.mq.edu.au/about/events) … you never know what you might stumble onto.
More on that next time.
Till then,
Tharinda
